Today is Ireland’s 2nd national Workplace Wellbeing Day. We were delighted to sign up to the campaign, which is being run by the National Health Foundation, to further promote wellbeing for our team. We all spend a considerable amount of time in our workplace, so here at Ag Eisteacht we believe that in building our resilience, we can deal appropriately with stressful events as they arise.
With that in mind the team signed up for an introductory yoga session in the Himalaya Yoga Valley Center in Cork. Our lovely instructor, Trish Hurley, took the time to tell us about the benefits of yoga for improving wellbeing and its impact on mind, body and spirit – all of which we believe will help us with our resilience.
Learning some new Yoga exercises which we can easily use in the office was a great way to participate in Workplace Wellbeing Day. Some of the yoga positions we learned were ideal for those of us who spend long periods of time sitting at desks whilst other techniques were of great interest to those who spend hours behind the wheel.
We also heard about ‘mindfulness’ from our instructor – a practice which can be hugely beneficial in reducing every day stress and building resilience. Mindfulness is an approach which encourages us to ‘be in the moment’ rather than feeling anxious about what ‘might be’.
We felt that the Yoga class, the ambience of the beautiful, calm venue and the time spent together as a team in the pursuit of improving our collective wellbeing were all extremely beneficial. We now hope to use our new learning in a practical way in our workplace with a view to improving our wellbeing.
