Hospital Patients given a voice!

This week results of a ‘National Patient Experience Survey’ were announced. This survey has been described by Minister Simon Harris as the “first real effort” to hear the voice of patients. The survey was conducted by HIQA (Health information and quality authority) in over 40 public acute hospitals.

Feedback was gathered across a number of areas from the 13,700 participants.

Of particular interest to Ag Eisteacht was feedback from people around interactions with doctors and nurses. 2/5 people said they did not always have enough time to discuss their care with their doctor. Patients also reported not feeling involved enough in their care with 36% of people saying they ‘were not always involved in decisions about their care’.

It is great to see patient’s voices being heard and we look forward to seeing how this research impacts and informs healthcare practice going forward.
