On this Mothering Sunday, we bring to mind all mothers. It is a day to show our gratitude and to honour the role mothers play in our lives.
But we are also mindful that this may be a difficult day for many, and not everyone will be sending or receiving a Mother’s Day card today.
Our hearts go out to all who have lost their mothers and other loved ones, particularly during this global pandemic.
Our thoughts are with grieving parents and families and those who can’t have children. We think of foster carers and children in care, estranged families and people fighting for their rights to find their birth mothers. We think of mothers and parents separated by miles from their children and grandchildren due to lockdown restrictions and those who are fortunate to have the experience of a loving mother figure in their lives.
Beyond all of the commercialisation, today is a day to honour mothers past, present and in the future, and to remember the beautiful power of connection that exists between a mother and her newborn baby.
